What do you use in the seams of the counter ? How thick is your slate?
Can a slate front edge be glued to the top edge to make it appear thicker?

    The slate was approximately 1/2" thick. We butted the seams together and glued them. Because it was a chalkboard and not a honed piece of stone, there are some variations in the seam. You could glue a piece to the edge but I would be hesitant about its long term performance without some kind of mechanical fastener.
