Most of us just barely bury them in the soil maybe 2/3 of the bulb exposed. But if yours are half and half I wouldn't worry too much they will probably be fine. If you've recently repotted them then they should still be loose in the soil and you could just bang the pot a bit on a hard surface and pull the bulb up a bit, shouldn't hurt it to do that.

Rule of thumb is to have a pot 1" larger in diameter all around the bulb and as deep a pot as you can find but many of us break that rule as well.

In pots, they only need an inch of clearance from the side. I plant mine shallow (half way) to keep an eye on new bulbs to watch for rot, etc.

How much space do you leave between bulbs when planting several in one pot?

Well, depending on how much space you have in the pot. I usually end up tucking them pretty close in the middle when I have more than one bulb but ideally at least an 1 & 1/2" if you've got the room.

Thanks, this gives me an idea or how large a pot to choose. I have several Lady Janes from a previous year's mislabeled bulbs. They have been good bloomers in individual pots previously. Gave some bulbs away but still have three or more and thought I would plant two or three together this year.

Why not up to neck?

Hi Arif!!
I know that I don't plant my new bulbs in pots all the way to the neck. I plant them so that an inch or more shows. If a bulb has any red or suspicious soft spots I plant them much higher! Remember this only applies to new bulbs!

My seedlings, many of which should bloom this year, are totally buried! Also, I think it's kind of pretty to have some of the bulb's brown papery outer layer showing if you are going to have the bulb on display.

But, in the garden, they are nearly all level with the soil!

I have come to the conclusion that for my climate the bulb top at soil level is the best both for ground as well as pots. This Jan. I shifted over 300 bulbs from ground to pots, as most of my bulbs do not go dormant the transplanting shock was more than my expectations.
Anyway the bulbs buried up to neck did better than those planted shallow.
My Amaryllis Garden at roof top proved a failure, no one likes to climb stairs to watch the blooms so I ended up with lots of cut flowers, I ran short of vases.

I plant my in ground outdoor bulbs buried to the neck. We get one or two frosts a year so saves me needing to do any winter protection. And my soil is all sand, so drainage isn't a problem.
