I could hardly lift it, lol. I thought I had a tree stump for a while there. We had a blast.

He was 24 1/2 pounds. You should see the video of me fighting it. I had him hooked in the mouth and when I got it close to the top the line went slack and I thought I had lost him and yanked hard and caught him again in the side and then the fight was really on. Try dragging a 24 pound fish sideways after you have already been fighting him for 20 minutes and he dives back to the bottom, lol. My daughter started videoing it after that. I will try to post it on you tube when I have a chance. It was pretty funny and I looked like I was about to have a stroke, lol.

Lol, we are packing fillets to send home with my daughter along with some wild caught pig sausage and smoke meat. Thank goodness the land still provides with the cost of everything nowdays. Email me if you want a link to the video and I'll send it. It was funny.

Awesome Kristy!! Nice catch! That guy is huge! Hope your back is OK! Hope your not too sore to lug plants in and out, lol. Nice job, you guys must have had alot of fun. My lil one is finally old enough now that we can start fishing again..our main thing is surf fishing. I get seasick, so I am no good on boats. We never keep anything since I can't stand the smell of fish, and there's no way it's gettin cooked in my house, lol. We just do it for the fun of it.

Kristy, I started laughing when I read your "Thank goodness the land still provides with the cost of everything nowadays." We were coming home from a meeting Friday night & someone had hit a deer a few houses down the street from our house. It wasn't there when we left & someone usually grabs them right up. I made my husband go back & get it & we took it over for my daughter to take care of. Yes, we do eat roadkill (MD is next to WV). Go ahead & laugh, it's free meat (& fresh too). I don't hunt or fish. If it was up to me, all my animals would die from old age, disease, or accident & I would have to be a vegetarian. IMHO, the best way to get a deer is with someone else's car. There are a lot of deer hit near my house & this is the second one I got this way (wasn't quick enough all the other times), the police tag it & there you are, all legal (yum, Bambi Stew). Don't worry, the only roadkill we eat is deer; the possums, etc can just wait for the state roads dept to scrape them up or someone in a more desperate situation than me comes along. I do have a gun but I only shoot targets with it.

Ok guys here is the you tube video so you don't have to download it you can just watch it. By the time we started taping I had already caught it lost it and recaught it and was worn out, lol. The other fish were Hybrid stripers and white bass. Hope you enjoy this. Excuse the end my daughter was just a wee bit excited and turned the camera sideways, lol

Oh my gosh, that is one huge fish! Dinner???

He will be, lol. We had to put him on ice since it was so late when we got home and he is too big to clean in the house. We filleted the hybrids for Morgan and didn't get to bed til about 2:30am then got up at 6 and left. Linda, I had to laugh when I read your post and will admit to having eaten many roadkill deer when I lived in the country. There were several times when we hit one or someone right in front of us and we just took it home and cut out the bruised part and ate the rest, lol. It was my biggest catfish but have caught a bigger saltwater red mangrove snapper that I couldn't even lift back when I was in good shape, lol. The deckhand had to hold him up to get a pic.

Thanks for posting the video Kristy. That must have been very exciting to have caught such a large fish!

Kristy, That is a nice flathead cat. How deep was the water you were fishing?

Thanks for the video, going to wait and watch it with the kids tonight.

It was in about 19 feet of water.

Holy Catfish!! Yikes!! Well done Kristy.

Thanks everyone. I still laugh every time I watch the video. My husband is from Hawaii and never had much to do with catfish. He was so funny listening to him ask our friends about it you can hardly understand him he was so excited, lol. We were fishing for whites and hybrids when I caught it. The meat filled up huge pan after all the bones were removed. Who's ready for a fish fry, lol.

Loved the video. My favorite part was when you told DH to get the net over the boat. You said it so calmly....I would've been screaming "get that net over the boat before you lose my fish"! Did you check to see if that was any kind of record fish around there? Seems like you should get some kind of award for one that big!!! Or your pic in the paper or something...

Lol, it was a couple pounds smaller than the rod and reel record. I was so calm because I was exhausted after fighting it so long. They only video taped the last few minutes, lol.
