Yep Nick & Lisa are right...and Dyckia are faster growing than Aechmea or Neo's from seed.

I've only grown one lot of Dyckia seed and I did that the same way that I grow my other seed i.e. in the take-away containers with coco-peat.

The germination was pretty fast and the growth rate is faster than any other of my seedlings.

Andrew, it's some seed that I bought on eBay, listed as being from a D. fosteriana hybrid that was bought directly from Bill Baker, with the plant ending up 3 feet wide. I wonder what the other parent of this plant was?! I'll be interested to see what the seed produces. Being a Dyckia newbie, it is all new territory for me.
