cabinet hardware placement

Considering doing centered and horizontal pulls on both cabinets and drawers, are these convenient to open? (vs. vertical pulls on cabinets).

    The basic rule is to have the pull easy to reach and in a location that allows for balance to the hinge. In this picture the pulls seem nicely placed and convenient. Cabinet hardware placement can be part of the overall design.

    I think the poster is asking if vertical pulls function well on a left/right hinge door, rather than why they were placed that way.
    It would make sense to me that the wider the pull in relation to the width of the door, the better the cabinet would operate - I would end up grabbing the side of the pull that I'd want to pull from.
