The yellow flowered plant is an Echinocereus. I can't remember it's name but I'm sure it's a pure Ecereus species. As I can see what you think Avonia is a cactus. The name is Puna clavaroides.

In the second picture the small scaly plant is an Avonia.
Its in the Portulaca clan.
The cactus in the far right in the back is a Horse Crippler. They grow wild here!

The Echinocereus what I mention before is subinermis. The Horse Crippler looking plant is a young Ferocactus latispinus.

The small one behind the Pterocactus looking plant is either Stenocereus eruca or Stenocereus gummosus.
