One of the best trees for growing brom's on is the Callistemon (Bottle Brush) They come in many sizes from just a largish shrub to quite large trees to 30 feet high.

There are some types with particularly rough bark and these are the ones you want.

Yes I have them in my Callistemons.
Paperbarks are not ideal as the bark can peel off, but these trees are in a good spot for broms as they are just outside my shade house.

Before anyone has ideas of planting a paper bark (mainly Melaleuaca quinquenervia) make sure your not planting near any types of pipes, paving or driveways as they will destroy all. Great tree for sucking moisture out of the ground if u have a boggy area. Nev, i see ur from the Illawarra area, im from Newport northern beaches. How do u attach most of ur broms to trees? 20min ago i used ladies stockings (not mine haha) to a Petticoat palm. It was a neo manoa beauty. Reckon it'll work? So glad, i just found this forum and its amazing! Sunshine qld, how did u attach yours and did u put any spagnum moss in or anything?

Adam, would a Jacaranda do ok where u are? They are great for Vrieseas and some Neo's cause of the shade it provides in summer. Cheese Trees seem to fair ok too. What size are u looking for?

Most on the paper barks were just poked into crevices. On my other trees I use stockings. I cut them into bands and join them together to get the length I want. They are hardly noticable.

Jacaranda grow very well here, but would be too big for my fairly small back yard. I think I'll just wait for my citrus, palms and frangipani to get away.
I have aslo started collecting bits of eucalypt log to plant into for some instant gratification.
