What do you do with all your pictures

of butterflies? I know I have several hundred on my computer now and a huge pile of them from before my digital camera days.

I decided to put together "collages" using picture frames with several size sections. One is full of "mostly orange butterflies" like Monarch, Queens, GF,s, Julia, and then some tiny tropical butterflies that have orange on them and most are on orange flowers. Another has yellow Sulphurs, yellow and black butterflies as Tiger or black and yellow like Swallowtails. A third has black and blue butterflies like Eastern Blacks, Spicebush, and some tropicals like Morphs. The fourth has a mixture of colors like my White Peacock, one that kind looks irrediscent green like a Malachite, and another that has a really pretty underside, a White and Black one that I saw at one of the butterfly conservatories, and some small tropical ones. Lastly, I have a small frame where I am going to put unusal pictures. One is from Cypress Gardens Butterfly Conservatory when it opened 13 years ago. It is sign that says "PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE BUTTERFLIES" Right on the word TOUCH a black and white butterfly landed! So cool! Then when we were at the Rainbow Forest at UF they had a sign explaining the different shapes of the butterflies' wings. On the sign landed a Julia right where it was talking about elongated wings. Then I have a picture of some butterfly or moth looking right at me and the wings are moving so fast they are in a blur. Neat effect.

Besides these frames, I am making a scrapbook that includes the butterflies, the eggs, cats in different stages and the chrysalis.

Still have enough pictures to complete my educational materials for when I give talks or visit schools. The kids love looking at the pictures and I usually print out large ones to use in my presentation. I have not done a power point presentation, guess that would be easier in the long run.

Back to my question..... do you have special ways to use your pictures or I am the only crazy one??? DH got me a photo printer for Christmas a couple years ago so I can print them the size I want and play around with them more freely than if I had to send them ou to get printed.

What you're doing is so creative, Mary!
Periodically, I go through Photobucket and the pictures on 'My Pictures' section on my computer and delete those I'm not using on this forum. My old 35mm pictures are in a plastic container in my closet, gathering dust, I guess - if I were smart like you, I'd think of a good way to use them.

Mine live an eternal life on my hardrive....Was just thinking today about uploading to Shutterfly and getting some prints made....hmmmmmm

Someone once mentioned putting together a calendar using their pictures and some other peoples that they saw on this forum. I was just thinking, perhaps we could "get together" and put together something that we could sell and donate the proceeds to an ecological group or something similiar. I have lots of pictures that are just okay to use like for this forum but I do have a handful that I am really proud of. I was also thinking about how you can have them put on canvas and stretched so that you can use them as art in your home. I have looked on line and it isn't cheap but when you smile everytime you see one of these winged creatures, why not enjoy it all the time.

I put mine in photo albums. Last year, I told a 'story' with the pictures of monarchs and BSTs eclosing. Even if some pictures werent good, I would take pictures next time and put the pictures in the proper order and you could see the monarch pupating and eclosing. I have ones right after the BSTs eclosed but only one or two of them pupating. Sort of hard to catch that.

A couple of years ago Geni had us send her pictures and she made them into a gorgeous calendar. I had it in my classroom and my students all ooohed and aaahed over it.

Right now mine are like Paul's...taking up a lot of space on my hard-drive! I have deleted a number of them though since I've found that as I raise more and more, I have become more persnickety about my pictures as well. It just takes time to go through and weed out the ones I don't like.

I thought about doing one of those picture books (like through Shutterfly) since that is another great way to organize the pics. I am having one made for hubby with his Plumeria collection. :)

I'm super picky about what I keep and what I don't unless it's for a specific reason. For example, I have only one set of that California Tortoiseshell that showed up back in April...and I'll be darned but a website had a blank spot, no pic. I sent them mine and they used them!

Pretty cool, considering they weren't the best of pics. :)

Other than that, I like to stuff the good ones in the folder that is used as my screensaver, and it flips through them all nicely.

I have some of mine as screensavers and I am always surprised when a new one shows up. I have done the life cycle pictures with many of the species I raise and that is neat too for those who are really into it all.
I have folders for each species on my computer but when I take all kinds at one time I label them differently so I can load them and then never go back and put them in the right folder. I REALLY need to spend some time cleaning out the ones I don't need and sorting them to the correct files.
