How big is it? Do you have a garage or shed where you could put it that doesn't get too cold during cold snaps until it warms up a bit? I think what might damage them more is cold dry winds (which this cold snap is producing in many areas in the mid atlantic) rather than the actual cold.

I do have a shed I can put it in but it won't get much light there. I'll have to bring it back out after this spell is over. I hadn't thought of putting it there. Thanks! (Yes, it's windy and very dry. A deadly combination in this cold!)

Although it has been cold in the Lowcountry for the past few days, it was unseasonably warm until then. The plant may not have had a chance to harden off because of those warm days. Do protect it this year until it can get acclimated to your weather.
