need a variety recommendation

hey all,

not a new gardener exactly, but pretty new to camellias. I am looking for camellias for a northwest wall. perfect world, they'd be tall, columnar almost, and bloom all winter. I'd also prefer magenta or deep pink to red or white, but that's more negotiable.

I was thinking I have room for about 3, and could do 1 japonica and 2 sasanquas or vice versa, to expand my season of bloom. they'd get plenty of shade in the summer, but in the winter they'd get full sun in the afternoon. for the same reason I am not needing cold-hardies particularly, begonias overwinter in this bed.

is any of this doable? or will I have to sacrifice some of my want list to get the rest? i.e., long bloom VS color VS height/shape VS sun tolerance?

A difficult question for someone out of state since shades of magenta/pink/red & straight-up growers that I like may not be "ok" with you. Besides, the ones that bloom in winter here may not bloom at the right time there. Yuletide, Spring Promise, Kanjiro are some possibilities.

Suggestion: Have you gone to Massee Lane Gardens to view the camellias there? When I went to Ga Tech, I think they were located south on I-75 off the Byron (sp?) exit. You can see many varieties face to face there and determine which have a form that you like. They probably will not have much bloomage now but you could select some named varieties and then go get pictures off the Internet.

I also think the American Camellia Society is based there or .... Alzheimer's moment..... I am not sure about that now. Hmmm. But anyways, they have many people familiar with camellias that could be very useful.
