Just leave it alone. It will eventually make a small tree. You can prune it anyway you want to. They are hardy plants if they are in conditions that they like. I am assuming that you have yours in a container. Cut off the lower branches. It will try to send out new sprouts at the cut. Just watch and rub them off. But frankly, I would let it do it's own thing. You could be surprised at the results.

Thanks PB..I'm assuming most nursery bought camellia's are not grafted..is this true?
I once had a beautiful tree (standard) camellia, (yrs ago) but one summer outdoors it rained daily and drowned it..I was devestated.
So, you think if I leave it be it'll evenutally turn tree-like? Or should I cut bottom branches as tree matures? Thanks so much, Toni
