Hmmmm, there's a little mystery here! There is a 'Pink Butterfly' japonica, but I am unable to find a sansanqua registered under that name. Are the leaves small like a sasanqua? The nomenclature book states that the variety registered as 'Pink Butterfly' is a japonica with vigorous upright growth and a bloom that is light pink edged white. Registered in 1948. It blooms mid-season, which would be January in your area. See if this matches what you have. If not, we need to do some more investigation. Most camellias (japonicas or sasanquas) when fully grown can eventually become small trees, 20 feet or so, but they often take many years to reach that size. Of course, they can be kept trimmed back to shrub size or shaped as you like it. You might avoid planting it too close to a structure, and be sure to plant it high!

Hey Forrest. Thanks for the response. The camellia does have small sasanqua-sized leaves and the Cam Too Nusery tag id's it as Pink Butterfly, Camellia sasanqua. It has a rather large bloom for a sasanqua in a deep pink, maybe 8-10 petals, fully opened, with very prominent golden yellow stamens. Nice fragrance too! I tried to find a pic to show you as it is really a beauty that you shouldn't miss out on but couldn't find one on-line.

I'm just going to assume that it will eventually get small-tree-sized and plant accordingly. It is already sending out very long shoots which makes me think it might be a faster grower.

My C. s. 'Pink Butterfly' is definitely upright growing, about 4-5' at present.
