just a guess but i may have seen this one at the local kiwanis club camellia sale this spring. tom eden is a local man who used to operate a nursery in my area (auburn) and is still involved in this sale each year. it might be named after his wife/daughter. i have emailed someone to ask about it for you as i am curious myself. possibly a dodd nurseries introduction as that is where most of the stock comes from for this annual event.

I purchased 2 Ashley Eden camellias at the Camellia Society Show in Mobile, Al. last weekend. I was told they are white, but no one could tell me how tall they grew, or if they tolerated sun or had to be in the shade most of the time. Have not planted them in my yard yet while I m trying to get more infol

Ashley Eden is a Camellia sasanqua. It was named after one of Mr. Tom Dodd’s friends, Mr. Eden's daughter Ashley Eden. The Eden’s are in Auburn, AL. We think it is a mid-sized grower, maybe about 4’-5’ Ht. x 4’-5’ Width. I’m not 100% sure on that mature size but it is a compact shrub type.

The bloom is white with yellow stamens. The blooms have a hint of light pink on the tips of the petals sometimes. It is one of our favorites here although not many people are familiar with it. We tell people it would be a good sub for Mine No Yuki.

Because it is a sasanqua, the leaves can handle full sun if given enough water. However, my summer is so hot -above 100F from July thru Sept- that I prefer to give sasanquas afternoon and evening shade. Luis
