Zone 7 is about the limit for most outdoors, and I know coatal NC is warmer and they do well there , I'd guess, you might find though in the mountains that you get some exteme cold from time to time, but look around your area for signs that other camellias are planted there, and doing fine. That's the easiest way to see which plants are hardy in a particular area.
