It depends, dwiggs. Full shade is ok as long as there is lots of indirect light. Otherwise, the lack of sun light might produce fewer blooms. Really dense shade may not allow the plant to thrive. You would notice that when the number of blooms is low. However, ignore this on the first year or two as transplant shock sometimes reduces the plant's output of blooms.

I have some camellias growing on the north side of my house so they are always shaded but the indirect light allows them to produce abundant blooms.

You did not have to travel that far for plants, though. Many here have given kudos to Erinon Nursery in Plymouth, FL (north of Orlando) for their knowledge and quality of camellias. There is also another camellia nursery in Naples.
