Huge Camellias in DC

If you are visiting DC, the U.S. National Arboretum might be a worthwhile trip. The original Camellia oleifera plant is still there (and is huge by DC standards) and you can still see big stumps from the old camellia plants that died in the late 70s. Unfortunately, the arboretum is not within walking distance of most of the attractions that are in downtown DC.

'Hard winters in the late 1970s all but eliminated the original Camellia Collection. A few hardy individuals survived. One notable tea-oil camellia survived without injury and went on to become a parent for Dr. William Ackerman's hardy camellia hybrids. The Winter Series resulted from this work, and the surviving plant also became an Arboretum introduction called 'Lu Shan Snow'.'

I am fond of visiting the elderly trees. The former Camellias, are my favorite trees. I expect to have the pleasure of visiting some day, the famous "National Arboretums" of USA.

I would like to see, someone comes out in photographs, of the former " Camellia oleifera ", of the eminent camelliÃ³file, Dr. Ackerman.

(PD. In " Pazo of LourizÃ¡n", there are more than 300 Camellias in his garden. Many of the Camellias have more than hundred years. In December only they had flowers, the varieties "Alba Plena" and "Anemonaeflora Alba".)

Wow, those camellias are beautiful and really huge! That must be the perfect climate for camellias. Happy New Year :-)
