Wall color combinations?

I would like to use more than one color on the walls and ceiling of my daughter's bedroom. How should I determine what color to put on which wall, and what color to use on the ceiling?

Its sort of hard to answer the question, without diving into more details. What is the size of the room? What is the height of the room, how many windows and how large they are? What color of the furniture, and so on.. do you have "YOUR" pictures of the room? thanks..

How old is your daughter? Since it is her space, involve her in the decisions....but you'll likely have to use your judgement to tone things down.

My daughter is 20 (college student) She wants the room plum (dark plum). She selected bedding that is white with large plum leafed flowers, which have some shading in a salmon and strong orange. (For a long time she wanted the room a dark, strong orange) So I thought perfect - the plum and orange are actually rather pretty together - factor in: (we have a 160 year old victorian home) the room is app. 15' X 18' with ceiling 9' high. It has a bay of 3 full windows with a window seat, and an additional window on the wall to one side of the bay. It also has a large walkin closet about 6' X 9' which has another window and she pretty much keeps the door to the closet open. The floor, woodwork, trim, window seat is golden oak. I am a bit afraid to paint all the walls in the dark plum, so I thought perhaps2 or three in the plum, one or two perhaps the salmon - her furniture is the old classic white which I thought I could repaint in a distressed orange and maybe add plum, glass pulls - I have no idea how to coordinate this paint - and furthermore, what to do with the ceiling!!! HELP!!!

I'd have to proceed slowly on this one, to see how the ideas and colors were working in the light (natural & artificial light) in the Victorian room with wood trim. Your ideas sound good here is another: Buy top & bottom sheets & sheets to cover inner springs sheets in the same plum (easier to match paint to bedding). Keep spread folded down a little. Paint wall over bed plum, all other walls white. I'd probably try several plum paints to see which one enhanced the light in the room, trim, & bedding. Keep all furniture white. Tall orange lamps on night tables with white shades. Curtains white sheers. Window seat cover plum, orange, white stripes. Coordinate the closet. One plum wall as you enter, other walls white, white hangers.
