Is it too early to remove the shredded cedar mulch from the cannas I have in the ground and in containers? I want to start an early fertilizing program and need to get the food down to the dirt level. I'm using Spread and Feed in granular form.

We are at 500 feet elevation and still have a few frosty mornings although the temperatures up here seem to be getting back up into the mid-30s.
