Generally speaking, you can start your plants in pots about 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outside. Available light and some heat will determine results. Plants can get very leggy if you do not have sufficient light. Establishing a healthy root system is much more important than plant height. Remember to harden the plants off before planting outside.
