Hi Kathy,

I prefer to pot my cannas up into 2 gallon pots. I find that this gives them enough room to grow lots of roots without drying out so frequently. As for the number of tubers per pot, that depends on you. I like to see anywhere between 3 to 5 eyes per pot.

Hi, i'm new here, I'm in z6 and every three years my cannas have froze out. I really like the pot idea. but would like to know how i could protect cannas in the winter,other than bringing them in as i have very large pots.

this is just to get them started for the spring. I find that the pot will constrict their growth. I'm in Zone 5 and I'm unable to over-winter my cannas outside. I would have to say that you either have to find a way to get them out of the pots or fill your pots with soilless mix and let them dry out; which will make them much lighter to move. Or lastly, don't try to save them and replace them each year.
