If it's slugs that are eating them you could try any of the various products on the market. They make some that are "green" (organic). The one I bought is in pellet form. Simply form a circle around the base of the sprout(s) staying away from the base of the plant itself. This acts as a fence to keep the slugs from getting at the plant. It worked for me & my sweet peas.
Slugs do a lot of damage during the night so it's best to be ahead of the game and be preventive even before the sprouts emerge.
I've read you can also use bait such as half orange rinds sunk to ground level and filled with beer. It attracts the slugs and they drown. I've not tried it myself.
