I do not know alot about cannas AT ALL but I recently moved into a new home surrounded by them. Not sure what your weather is like (we are in the low 90's-100's and very dry right now) but I moved 5 of them a few weeks ago and they all seem to be doing ok, had to water them ALOT and I packed alot of potting soil around the base of each of them. They are not bloooming but they are growing nicely.

I grow my canna in large pots on the deck. When 2 or 3 smaller shoots start, I slice thru to the rhizome and pull the smaller ones out and replant them to allow the main one to flourish without having to share the nutrients. The replanted ones always grow nicely and send up their own xtra shoots. That's how I turned 3 plaNTS INTO about 16.

It should be no problem moving them.

I've noticed with planting cannas from rhizomes that some will sprout roots and some just won't- not sure why. I've pulled rhizomes up after a whole growing season and they were still solid but never sprouted any roots or top growth. Once you have rhizome with fresh roots though, you can do just about anything you like and it will be fine as long as it's getting lots of sun and lots of water.

Can a canna rhizome still make it if there was only 1 or not even 1 root at all? I remember one of the rhizome I bought, there was no root at all.

The roots dry up pretty quickly if the thing isn't in the dirt- usually when you order a rhizomes rather than a plant there won't be any roots. As soon as you stick it into the dirt and start watering it will start to drop more roots.

If you recall, I just planted the rhizomes July 30. I already saw the pointy green coming out just for 2 days. I should take a picture later. :)
