OT I will be MIA

Dear Brug Friends,

Just wanted you to know that I won't be here at all for a bit or hardly at all. I am not in my home because my house totally flooded after a pipe in the water heater that is in the laundry room broke. It's possible that the water was gushing out for about 8 hours! When I say totally, I mean each room, bathrooms and even out in the back and out the front door had about two inches of water. The water damage company yesterday pulled out all the carpeting, baseboards and another company is packing up all my belongings and furniture that will go into their warehouse. It's possible that I will be out of my home for two months. Know I am handling this as I know God is in control and all will turn out just fine:-)

Eloise that is just aweful :-( I guess you were at work and did not catch it earlier?

I know that besides what you already said, that God is in control, there is not much comfort I can give you. This sure is a horrible thing to happen. But at least it was CLEAN water and hopefully not to much belongings of yours are damaged forever and can dry out.

Eloise isn"t it you that works for USAA? Hey if so...BEST insurance company ANYWHERE!! ;-)

My friend I hope you got family nearby you can stay with! Also that you know that you will be thought of and missed from us, very very much.

Can you keep your gardenwork and taking care of it, up?

    Hugs

Oh no! What a mess that must be. Do they have to tear out the drywall and subfloors? Where are you staying while the repairs are being made. I hope the "disaster masters" can get everything fixed up soon so you can get back home.

Oh no! My sympathies are with you Eloise. Being displaced from home is so difficult. On the bright side, you'll get new flooring and fresh paint. I hope your furniture is ok too.

Eloise, so sorry to hear about your flood. But I know those restoration companies do amazing work, and while its a PITA to be out of your home, they will have it restored almost as good as new. Hang in there!!

That's awful. I live in the Craftsman style house I grew up in (never moved). It was hand built by my grandfather in 1924 & I have spent most of my adult life working on it. I was almost finished restoring the whole house. I had stripped all the wall paper & replastered the walls & stripped & varnished all the floors, doors & trim except for 2 rooms. Then we had a roof leak that went from really bad to even worse a couple winters ago. My ceilings collapsed in 1 bedroom on the 2nd floor & 1 bedroom, bathroom & dining room on the 1st floor & both the ceiling & walls in the pantry. The wood floors are ruined & all of them swelled & then shrank so there are gaps between most of the boards. All that moisture inside also makes the paint fail on the outside so I need to repaint the whole house again too. No insurance. It's been about 4 years & most of the walls are up now but not finished except for the dining room which makes it convenient to hang the plant lights from the bare rafters. When all the kids are gone (they keep moving back), I will rent a floor sander & start over (too bad we can't levitate). I'll live with it & it's more than a lot of people have but if it weren't for bad luck...

Thanks all for your well wishes, concerns and prayers. I have been out of my home since Sunday, and am staying at my DD's home. I am waiting to be relocated until my home is fixed. Although my family has been so wonderful and said I could stay here with them, I am used to being by myself and need that space. My 12 y.o. GS gave up his room so I would like for him to be able to claim it again. Yesterday, I saw a couple of hotels and one apartment. The insurance contacted a company that deals with relocating people so I don't have to worry about the finances of it. I hope to be able to take the apartment I saw yesterday. It is an unfurnished apt., but the Co. finding me a place will take care of furnishing it. It is a new building with pool, workout room, etc., plus there is a washer/dryer in the unit. Right across from the apartment is a Starbucks, restaurant (they have great margaritas), and a nail place (if I feel like getting a manicure after all this, LOL!) and it's 5 miles from my current home. Since I have to go to my home every day to feed my chicky, finches and fish, and to water my plants, the distance isn't so great. I miss my computer terribly. My family's computer has too many blocks for the kids so it's slow and painful to use. When I move, my DD will get a laptop from her job to loan me :-)

Lucy, I am retired from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Linda, I feel for you, and pray you will soon be able to get your home like you want it. A couple of days ago, I had a partial meltdown. I say partial because I had to control myself as my grandkids were present and I didn't want to scare them. Once I have my own place, I will be able to let go of these 'controlled' emotions, but for now I have to function as best as I can. I do pray for strength knowing 'this too will pass'.

Since my home was built in 1964, they tested for asbestos, and the kitchen, laundryroom and one bedroom came back positive so they will be taking care of the removal hopefully next week so the repairs can began after that. I wasn't looking forward to living in an apartment as I've lived in a home most of my life, but am trying to see it "as an adventure" as my DD also said. My home will be fixed and improved, and I am ever so thankful that I have insurance to cover all these expenses, that it wasn't worse, and that I am not physically out on the streets.

Again, my deepest thanks to all my brug friends. BTW, I have a brug cutting from Barry that is blooming!

So sorry about your home. I hope you get to go back soon and it will be better than new. Hugs.

I'm glad to hear that your ins co is taking care of relocation and repairs without a hassle. That would be the last thing you'd need. Just think how nice the house will be when the repairs and asbestos removal are completed : )

You sound like my Mom not wanting to move in with us. She's here all the time, occasionally stays over and loves the kids but is used to being alone now (my Dad passed away in 2000). All the goings on and especially the constant noise here gets on her nerves, even though she has a bedroom and bathroom to herself it's too much commotion. I invited her to come to the beach with us at the end of the month and was surprised when she said yes. I assured her that the house we are staying in is huge and she'll be able to have own space away from the kids (Jake & Madi are each taking a friend along).

I hope all continues to go smoothly and you are back home soon.

Eloise, You're so sweet, I'm so sorry for all this. I hope you return to a "better" house and I know how hard it is to live with people,an "adventure" indeed. A flower for you my dear.

Good morning all. Well, this is late for me, but my days are totally different then when I was at home. I ended up with a suite about 9 miles from my home, which I feel is far, but using the freeway it takes less than 20 minutes. Already, I am bored being here, LOL! Yesterday I went and picked up my grandbaby, and later my two other GKs came with my GD's boyfriend and they went swimming so I ended up having a nice, full day of activities. It's hard to hold back from shopping, or going to nurseries, because I don't have a place to put them in. The good thing is that I am saving $ so when my home is ready, I can go shopping at that time!

Yesterday, the abatement people were done, and today, I have an appointment with a contractor to get another estimate (3rd) for repairing my home.

Since there are two computers here in the lobby and I don't have competition for them, I haven't asked for the laptop. The negative thing is that they don't make it comfortable to be here too long because the chair is low and the screen is high.

Bri, thank you; that is a beautiful plumeria!

Eloise, I hope the repairs can be made quickly. I know you are anxious to be back in your home.

Eloise, Ask them for another chair or take a pillow or two to sit on & raise you up. LOL

    Linda

Eloise I am so glad that you can spend time with us while waiting for your house to get fixed.

How was the 3rd appraisal ?

    Lucy

Poor Eloise. I can't imagine having to be away from home so long. I hope your home is repaired quickly. Hugs.

It's nice to hear from you. Have they put you up in a hotel or an apartment building? Once you choose a contractor do you have any idea how long the repairs will take? Hopefully it won' be too long. Bring your own chair and see if you can store it somewhere in the lobby. lol
