cutting stalks before frost?

18 years ago

I am going to end up with a lot of "plant debris" after the first frost hits.I have a small city lot and do not compost.Would it hurt the canna rhizome if I start cutting down the stalks while they are still growing?I do not plan to dig the rhizomes untill november.
