I have, but found out that many weeds germinated from the soil. I now only use promix to get them going.

Thanks gardengirlc. I wasn't thinking of weed seeds but its a good point to consider. Come to think of it, I did have some unusual weeds last summer in the beds that I put it in. I'll look for some promix.

In the Halifax area you can get Promix at Halifax Seed on Kaye Street (between Robie and Agricola in the north area of the city) or Lakelands Plantworld in Dartmouth on Main St beyond the Forest Hills extension. Halifax Seed is probably your best bet at this time of year since they are open a fair number of hours. Lakelands sometimes closes for the winter - might be open on Sundays.

I buy the bale which costs around $35.00 before taxes, but it's compressed and will go a long way. You can also use what's leftover for your containers this summer.

Don't know if they still have it but Halifax Seed had some Promix on sale at around $26.00 in January. They have a website so you might be able to e-mail and ask.

Thanks Nicole. I might look for some the next time I'm in town. I ended up getting some soil from Walmart, simply because I was there and it was available. I hope it works ok...says it is for starting seeds and general potting, plus the price was right.

If it was Schultz from Walmart, that will be good too. I like Schultz's starter mix (not as much as Promix), but it is sold by moistened weight so you really do get more for your money from a bale of Promix.
