Look on pinterest saw some ideas on painting. Might have to remove but I think they used rustoleum spray paint. The color oil rubbed bronze would update the look. Some rustoleum paint has primer in it already so I would suggest getting that one so it will adhere better.

When i was getting my house ready to sell, I spray-painted every doorknob, hinge and even a chandelier that was that shiny brass, changed it to oil-rubbed bronze. I look them off the doors (knobs, not hinges), sanded lightly, used Rustoleum metal primer, then the Rustoleum Universal Metallic spray paint in Oil-Rubbed Bronze. Let dry, did 2nd coat, then, sprayed on a clear topcoat. Yes, it took some work, but it held even on doorknobs we used several times daily. And we sold the house quickly. A tip : I dropped the doorknobs into clean glass jars (ones bound for recycling anyway)) so that they could be sprayed from all angles and not have to be set down with a painted surface touching anywhere. . For screws, I poked them into a scrap piece of heavy cardboard and then sprayed all the heads at once. If you don't like the oil-rubbed bronzed look, maybe the brushed nickel? good luck.

rndar...that is a GREAT idea. Giving a home a fresh updated look is soooo important when putting it up for sale. You really get it. I am saving your idea to tell clients of mine that resist staging when it is time to sell .

Thank you. Although we took a few months to prepare the house to be put on the market, once we listed it, we sold it in 3 weeks. In addition to changing all shiny brass to oil-rubbed bronze, we rented a storage unit and used it to clear out closets, storage areas to show off their space, stripped wallpaper and painted those rooms in neutral beige and soft green. I think those efforts really helped get us a sale.
