Overwintering moths?

I have some Tobacco Budworm Moths (id courtesy of MissSherry) that have gone underground to pupate. My guess is that they will overwinter there. I am wondering what I should do with them over the winter. Obviously I will need to keep them cold, but not too cold. Also, I will need to control the amount of water entering the bucket (it is a 1 gallon round ice cream bucket), as it does not have drainage holes. I also do not know how close to the sides and bottom the pupa are, so I will need to make sure that the bucket does not get too cold. Because of this, I am hesitant to just put it on our patio with no protection besides the roof. Should I sink the bucket to soil level in the ground? Should I put the bucket in our garage? The garage seems logical, except that in the winter I don't go into there much, if at all. I think just putting it in our house wouldn't work, as all the rooms are heated.

Any answers or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,
