Your tree appears to be underfed and overworked. Sounds like what you have done recently will help. When you put in the ground, the roots started growing looking for food and soon it should begin to put out leaves. When the flowers fall and you have little fruits about pea size, I would take off most of them, leaving no more than 10 for a tree this size. The leaf color change is because the tree is sucking the life from the old leaves to use for flowers and new leaves. Have patience.

I agree with Johnmerr. Your tree is under fertilized. The coloration of the tree's leaves is very poor. Citrus are heavy feeders, requiring a good amount of fertilizing. A young in ground tree as yours is normally fertilized a minimum of 4 times a season. The normal fertilizers applied for young in ground citrus trees is either 6-6-6 pr an 8-8-8. You can continue to apply organic fertilizers if you wish, but because of their low nutrient content, you will need to adjust the amount that you apply so the the needs of the tree are satisfied. This is a Meyer; it needs an NPK ratio of 3-1-2; my mature producing trees get 18-6-12, a special formulation made for me with Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, and Zinc. For home gardens there are some very good fertilizers with this ratio... Foliage Pro comes to mind bt there are others. If you can find it, Vigoro makes a very good product called Citrus and Avocado food. If you are determined to stay organic, look for Citrus Tone, also a very good product. You can trust me on this; in addition to Meyers in all my 4 gardens, I have 16,000 trees inground in the field.

Hi. This seems related to my 2.5 potted Meyer Lemon tree. I bought it in Sept 2021 and had it inside in a sunny window. It blossomed. Dropped leaves. It blossomed again early Spring and small lemons (4-5) popped up. Only one remains (on the lower left in this photo). I used Down To Earth organic Citrus Mix (6-3-3) in Sept and in Jan. I don't know how much and how often I should apply that. And are the yellow tips a sign of nutrient deficiency? Thank

Since you bought this tree in September 2021, you still have the option of not buying it in 4 months when September 2021 comes around again.

Organic fertilizers do not work on potted plants because the microscopic living organisms needed to process the feed into usable form don't exist.

Miracle grow 24-8-16 is what I use. If you can't buy that where you live just look for fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio N-P-K. You want to use some thing that is added to water to make a liquid solution.

Citrus trees are heavy feeder and the Meyer lemon needs a little more. Once your tree has been in ground for several years you can feed it with granular fertilizer.

1. Thank you. How often is fertilizer needed for a potted Meyer Lemon tree? And how much would you say?

I use Miracle Gro 24-8-16 at 2/3 full strength every week during growing season and cut that down to1/3 strength when the tree needs water every other to every 4th week.

Thank you. I will start fertilizing more frequently. I assume that a healthy green leaf, not slightly curled inward and with no yellow tip will be what I need to look for!

The leaves May or may not color up but the new leaves will come out light green and should turn dark in a couple of months.

The roots are dying so no fertilizer is going to work unless you flush out that mix or use a whole fresh one and once the plant starts to recover, you fertilize as Steve suggested.

If you have access to rain water or bottle distilled even better to use unless you change the whole mix including in the root ball.

You are just going to further damage the roots with fertilizer in that mix.
