Red if you want to go bold or soft green if you want to stay pretty.

Is there a lot of wall space to be painted, or just a little? Where is the toile fabric? If just a little bit of wall, then Lanie's idea of red would work wonderfully. And if there's quite a bit of wall, I'd go with Lanie's idea of a soft green. Don't guess on the red or green. Bring home some paint chips to match to the fabric. Best of luck.

And get a sample size or quart of your paint and apply to see what color it will actually be once up!

I am currently half way thru painting our master bath (hubby gone on fishing trip so great time to do our bath). I selected a soft light gray...it came out a beautiful light lavender on wall!

Of course I didn't stop painting: prep done and paint purchased! And, after the initial shock and more walls were done, I loved it: it is very spa like. Just hope spouse doesn't divorce me!

I think the red and greens for the most part are becoming colors of the past. Sorry but here I agree with Dytecture!! I like the shade he shows but might even consider a bit darker which would help make the counter (in his example picture) pop even more.

Humbug, yorkiesgem! Reds change from year to year from orange-reds to more blue based reds, but you cannot just deny the value and existence of that entire range of colors! And greens! Down with grass she says! I for one do not believe it at all. But that's why we have this forum, so that all can speak their views. Bravo to you for having spoken yours. I refute them, but with a smile on my face because both views have merit and show courage.

Consider painting the ceiling the same color as you choose for the walls....or see if your toile is available in paper and paper the walls or have the fabric paper backed and apply to the walls. Toile is especially lovely when used on walls and fabrics.

I actually said not red in this situation more so because of toile which I adore, in black and red. Miss/Mr 1527 mentioned elements that already showed a great outcome overall.

Now on red walls and darker shades of green, I admit I have both currently in my home ... guilty as charged. So why did I make such an outlandish biased statement? Well no excuse but the solid red and/or green walls started in my part of the world over 6 years ago. With the current economy I've heard one sad story after another when homeowners find themselves needing to sell their beloved homes and a realtor trying to list the home tells them to repaint in neutral colors :( Not everyone painting a neutral wall color and opting for pops of color in items they can pack means they will be able to sell their home on the fly, but I sure pray that it raises the odds. No one plans for a bad day but lets face it, we are all feeling the economy worldwide .. so I'm design challenged at the moment based on the economy :)

Hey, yorkiesgem, it's all good. Making a home and preparing a property for re-sale are two different projects. Painting is never my first recommendation, but I know many agents come in and think the way to market a home is to neutralize everything in "builder beige" for unimaginative buyers. In case of a sudden need to sell, I hope homeowners will maintain and clean their properties regularly. We can deal with staging and color when we need to. Have a beautiful day!

1527: Personally, I would choose the cream color. I think you have enough black going on and I suspect the room is reading a bit darker.

To Carolyn, Lanie and Everyone else. You are ALL "right"". Each and every one of you. Color is such a personal choice. But everyone of you gives such beautiful ideas so graciously, it's what makes me come back to this site over and over. We all know you post one thing and then someone comes along and contradicts it. It makes me cringe, (well, kind of anyway). I actually don't even answer color questions most of the time, but I always read them and am very interested in them.

Carolyn said it more eloquently, but thank you all for putting your Big Boy Pants on every day and giving us the benefit of your experience and taste. It is very much appreciated.
