Your crape myrtle will sprout new leaves. It's not that unusual for this to happen. I've had crape myrtle that got new leaves frozen and they were fine. It will flower this year too since they set buds on new growth.

My crape myrtles got hammered too, but I'm already seeing more new growth so am sure they'll get past this bump in the road. Most 'in the know' predict they'll be fine, but a bit late blooming due to the catch-up time. This might not be a bad thing - if they bloom late, maybe the Japanese Beetles will have already run their course and let them alone - one can always hope!

It takes temps of below zero to kill a crape myrtle to the ground -- so while it got cold it didn't get that cold!

I doubt the crapes will even bloom late this year since they often don't leaf out until late April anyway.

Times like this I flog myself for being so scatterbrained and not keeping that garden journal! CM's here were very leafed out - maybe early, maybe not, no journal to check for history. Whatever - it will be interesting to see what happens as time marches on.

This has happened to my crepe myrtles before and they were just fine. They came right back out and bloomed in the summer like nothing ever happened. Last time, mine had leafed out further than they had this time, so I'm not the least bit worried.
