clematis to cover junipers

I have a large foundation planting of juniper across the front of my house. I was thinking of planting a clematis to scramble over it. The first that comes to mind is Montana, but would that be too much? Also, I think I would prefer a more vividly colored flower. That's a honey locust tree that will provide some shade. This is a south facing exposure. Any suggestions?

Well one thing I would like to ask you - are you planning on trimming that juniper because if so - a montana would be no good as it is a type 1 clematis - no prune. I am not sure how it would work - but I guess you could try a type 3 - Hard prune. Maybe plant 2 - a white and a pink??? I would maybe try Huldine and Ville de Lyon. That would give the front of your house some color too! Lynn

I prune my Montana all the time, otherwise it would be unmanageable. I still get awesome blooms for at least 6-8 weeks every spring. I just do not hard prune.
