Hedychium 'Tahitian Flame'

Have you all seen the new Hedychium 'Tahitian Flame' that BB's is carrying? Yummmm...peachy orange.... Talk about eye candy! Had to have this one! It's suppose to be an improvement on Dr. Moy. Can't wait to see it bloom, but right now my fav is still Tara. It just glows and is an early bloomer compared to other hedychiums, at least in my yard.

Finally got my ginger bed planted last year, been keeping most of them in pots, so I'll be in ginger heaven this year when they start blooming.

From TerraNova's site......

hey, root- that was the one i got a bb a few weeks back. you were right. it's destined for the fair this summer, in a pot in the greenhouse for winter, and then my house next spring. i gave tara a nice prominent spot and can't wait til she struts her stuff. thanks! t

I was just oohing and ahhhing over this one today at BB!! A customer had selected it, and that is the way Adele and I do a lot of our shopping, via customer "suggestion." Glad you all scooped them up!

Tam, you're very welcome. Tara blooms early, be sure to cut back to the ground any bloomed out stalks and it'll keep throwing up new ones. I think it took about 3 to 5 weeks in between for the 2nd blooming and last year I got a partial 3rd bloom before frost. I think it was late July when it first started blooming.

Amy, I always check to see what new gingers BB's has and I'm thrilled with this one. I think this is the 1st new one (that I didn't already have) he's had in a couple years. Would love to see them get H. greenii (species) in.... drool, drool....hehehehe. It only gets about 3 -5 ft tall, has deep orange blooms, the back side of the leaves are maroon (stems a lighter maroon), likes pond or bog conditions and no seed but it grows plantlets at the tips of its stalks after blooming. What's not to like?

I've been planning a trip there anyways. Now I know what to look for. You really can't have too many gingers. Can you? -Ais.

ok- now i'm drooling, too. that is gorgeous root!
i'll take the tip about cutting back spent stems. the only one i have so far is the white and it blooms so late i didn't know that.
nope, ais, i don't think there's such a thing as too many. and to think i'd never even noticed them til a couple yrs ago. i can't wait to keep getting more.

Ok, guys, I will see what I can do! Sometimes all it takes is a request, and miraculously, the new plant appears 3 weeks later. I will get on it!!!
