Lindy, I have Artic Queen growing with my rose Don Juan and it is just a magnificent clematis. Mine was still blooming in December! You will love it. I planted Avant Garde, Daniel Deronda and Venosa Violacea last year and I really liked them and can't wait to see how they do as they get established. I really like the color and blooms of Avant Garde. I envy your ability to grow Peonies in your area! I keep trying but they don't love it here.

I plan to put Arctic Queen in a pot on the deck so its good to hear that it has a long bloom period. I don't expect it to bloom past October here but even that would be great.

I have to be honest, the order I placed was based upon pictures that Miguel had posted previously. My order is through Brushwood.

I ordered from Joy Creek Clematis 'Hoshi no Flamenco'and I ordered Caroline' and 'Fujimusume' from Chalk Hill. I'm done ordering. Still have to plant the 20 or so wintering over on the deck. Now I have a list of 3 climbing roses I need to order to go with a few clematis.

Carolyn, that Miquel is responsible for a lot of my purchases too. I hope to get Hakuree from Debbie in May. I planted Ember last year. It seems I have more of the "new" clematis so I decided to order some of the older ones this year.

Arlene, I can't wait to see what Fujimusume looks like in person. I ordered mine last fall and it is still in a pot. Which roses are you ordering to go with your clematis? Roses are one of my other obsessions.

Your rose is gorgeous! What kind of clematis is growing with Sombreuil? Not too much cream - the color is perfect and it is such a wonderful combination with the fuschia color of your clem!

Carolyn, the color of the clematis isn't accurate in that photo. I took it with my old camera and the actual color is darker and more reddish. The clematis is Niobe. I like it very much with Sombreuil. Thank you!

Hi Carol and Carolyn. I have been busy with the late year holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) and also went on an 8 day Caribbean cruise right before Christmas. Once I got back it has been one thing after another, not to mention my wacky work hours so I have been ignoring all online stuff until recently. All is well at home so just trying to get through the winter.

I have been a very good boy and have nothing ordered to date! I still have about 6 pots of clematis that I ordered this fall from various sources sitting outside unprotected in the yard. I have also started a bunch of clematis from seed and am already having germinations on a few of them. If they all germinate, I am going to have my hands full. I must admit however that I received a surprise in the mail the other day--clematis Mary Rose. She arrived bareroot from Great Britain via a special parcel post. She has been potted up and is being stored in the unheated garage over the winter. Hopefully I will get blooms this year that I can post pictures of. This is one clematis that I have been lusting after for years now and I finally got her!! LOL Time will tell how she does.

You lucky dawg! I can't wait to see photo's of her! Sounds like you had a very good holiday. I don't know about you but I am starting to get a little concerned about the clematis in pots that are unprotected. Snow, ice, sleet, temperatures in the teens.....hope they make it. I am not accustomed to winter protecting plants in this climate and I am also not accustomed to prolonged freakish cold weather like this!

Carol, I have started clematis seed outside in pots in the past and even had a few germinate in the cold, so I am not too worried about more mature ones I have in pots sitting outside. They are sittin with an easterly exposure so they get sun most of the day. I consider it my experiment since none of the ones out there would be very difficult to replace should they not make it, but like I said, I am not too worried about them!

Hey Harry! Clematis are my other obsession :-). Nothing more beautiful than roses and clematis IMO. Venosa Violacea was new for me last year but it grew and bloomed well and it is beautiful. I think Jeanne is responsible for me ordering that one! How is your Betty Corning? I love that vigorous, beautimous clematis. I eyed that Royal Velours for a long time but didn't order it, it is a beauty.

Carol. I planted my Sombreuil yesterday on a umbrella trellis from Jackson Perkins I received as a gift. Now I have to decide what clematis to plant with it.

Here are a few from my garden.

Durandii is a non-climber.So he needs a little help. The flowers went all summer here in my zone 5b garden. Absolutely no shade for the roots other than a little mulch on landscape fabric. I have most of my clematis set up for seed production only.

Pamiat Serdsta was quite a find and certainly one of my favorites of last summer. This year will be the second summer in the ground for me so I hope she will perform even better (not that twice in the dry summer was bad or anything).

Crispa was a complete surprise as it was a seed aquisition and flowered the same spring from seed!!!! She was only about 6" tall and produced a flower as you can see the comparison to our twoonie. Can't wait to see what becomes of her this spring (if we ever get one!)

Then is Wada's Primrose which I bought as something else completely but I am not disappointed. The slight yellow tint to the white flowrs is nice and the purest large flowering I had up till this summer past. I bought a few more of course (who has room? I certialy don't but I have discovered all of you interplanting with the roses. Gave me some ideas). Wada's Primrose in a very profuse flowering variety.

Arlene, I do hope you love your Sombreuil! Train those canes early because they get very thick and rigid as they age. Any clematis other than white would be beautiful with your Sombreuil.

Dana, your photo's are gorgeous! I am planning on growing the Durandii through my Quince bush. We'll see how that works. Pamiat is very pretty.
