I believe you Miguel (NOT) :-). I wasn't going to buy any more clematis this spring either. I love Crispa and wouldn't mind having the problem of lots of Crispa's! I really like the looks of all the clematis you ordered. It did make me feel better to know that you caved in too, since I had all those I ordered this fall sitting in pots waiting to be planted when I just had to order a few more.

Carol, perhaps the reason I felt enabled to purchase more clematis was due to the fact that this weekend the weather was so nice that I planted all five of the clematis I had sitting outside in pots! Separation anxiety must have set in, although I do have three seedlings up so far-two heracleifolias and one that is supposed to be lisiandra.

Alina, as I said before, I did purchase the RHS collection (Wisely, Harlow Carr, Rosemoor, and Hyde Hall) from Van Bourgondien. The plants were small and I wondered if they would survive or not. The only one that didn't make it was Hyde Hall which wasn't one that I really wanted anyway. In fact, when I went to dump Hyde Hall out of the pot after it didn't come up and the three others were growing away, the roots were still very much alive and growing. I opted not to pot it back up and just tossed it since it wasn't one that I wanted. I am sure these will similarly be small but I will plant them nonetheless and see what happens. I will post pictures of the plants themselves when they arrive!

I understand you received them potted, right? The 'Polish Spirit' I ordered from them arrived bareroot with rotted crown. I cannot say it did not survive: it was well dead upon arrival :-(. I guess, the quality of their plants depends on their wholesale vendor.
Can you please comment on 'Rosemoor' performance? Is it that long blooming?

Alina, the RHS clematis were sent bareroot, not potted.

As for Rosemoor, it blooms with a main flush in the midspring and then intermittently the rest of the season. I have been known to whack it back after the first flush or in the summer should it get the browned out look and get another flush almost as large in the early fall.

Miguel, you inspired me. The weather was nice yesterday and I got some of the potted clematis planted. I would have planted them all but I kept getting distracted by cutting back the dead perennials, cutting off broken rose canes.... :-).

Yep, definitely weird weather here Carol. Last night the low was 60 degrees and there is a chance of rain today. Great time to be out in the garden doing stuff. Now if it could only stay like this in the middle of the summer!!

Thanks for the kind words about the seedlings. I expect more will be popping up over the next few months and through the summer!

Miguel, I'm jealous. I want to be thinking about spring planting! My goal is to wait and see what survived the winter before allowing any new purchases. Let's cross our fingers, eh?

Cross our fingers---will do. Do the same for us in NC where the rainfall the first month of the year is already lower than normal. I hesitate to think what this summer will be like. Raleigh is already at stage 2 water restrictions. They are trying to get people to use 42 gallons or less per day per person.

It certainly is freaky weather. We typically have flooding in the Spring and the Fall, not during the month of February. We have had heavy driving rains over the last couple of days. The river finally crested a day or so ago.

I ordered more too - I orderd from Chalk Hill Purpurea Plena Elegans and Gravetye Beauty. This is in addition to the 3 from Brushwood that I previously mentioned. I was enabled on those two too!

Carolyn, speaking of freaky weather, we had 2 inches of snow last night (Wednesday). The drive home from work was fun since the weathermen hadn't forecasted it so nothing was applied to the roads. Thursday morning after the sun came up the snow melted mostly by midday.

Okay, another confession. I have fallen off the wagon. Although I now have 9 or so seedlings up and growing, I fell off the wagon and have ordered a few more clematis for spring delivery. They include another Huldine from Koi Gardens (decided to give them a whirl and I have a place I want to try this one to grow even though I already have one Huldine elsewhere in the garden), a pink version of clematis pitcheri from Siskyou Gardens (I already have two of the tradition purplish ones--what's one more?), and a Fudo from Joy Creek. This was one that I ordered last spring from them along with Myofuku, but they had crop failure or the plants weren't up to snuff so they didn't ship it. Okay, no more for this spring! LOL

Miguel, I am so jealous that you can go out and actually work in your yard, mine is literally sitting under a few inches of snow (what's left of it after today) and water from the melting snow and rain today. It's supposed to start getting cold again, so I'm sure by this time next week my yard will be frozen again, argh.

Well Linda I envy your snow. You know what they say about the grass always being greener on the other side of the fence. The southeast is still in the depths of an exceptional drought. Two weekends ago I was out moving 10 cubic yards of cedar mulch to help preserve the water we are getting and hopefully protect my plants this summer. I hesitate to think what it might be like then!

Miguel, you see that tiny little section of exceptional drought left in South Carolina? That is exactly where I live. I kept telling people the rain passed us to the north, the south, east and west and now they can see it with their own eyes.....we've had rain this winter but not enough to make a lot of difference. I fear that the summer will not bring much change.

BTW, I knew you would buy another clematis or two....:-)

Wow, I didn't realize just how serious the drought in the south was, if only we could split the difference. I sure hope that things start to look up for both of you and that this summer doesn't prove to be even worse.

Jeanne, I love Viola although I have had mildew on it once in the past so bad that the sepals had big cottony balls on them. It was so disgusting but luckily only happened one year.
