I wish we had that problem here Linda. I personally have not had to deal with the conditions that you are dealing with so can't offer any advice except to say that perhaps with the plants being dormant they won't be as affected as if they were actively growing. Perhaps something with similar experience can offer more guidance.

As long as the situation is temporary and the soil in general well draining, I doubt you have much to be concerned with. It's the prolonged exposure (as in ordinary growing conditions) to poor drainage and saturated soils that causes problems.

Thank you, that gives me a little more hope. I swear I've never seen so much water, this has been one crazy winter.

I had a similar problem for the past three years, not counting this one, and haven't lost a clematis. I had one that was sitting in water for a while, then we had a hard freeze. It stayed like that until it got warm enough to thaw the soil. The clematis were fine.
