If you prune them all as type 3 you will get a later bloom or possibly miss a bloom on the type 2 plants. If you don't prune the type 3 you will have bloom high on the plants but not lower on the old growth. You will not harm the plants either way. If they were mine I would prune them all as type 3 but I'm in a different zone and not familiar with your seasons.

I would prune them all as 3 as well. Too much stress and worry go into Clematis pruning. They don't read books and they can't be killed by the wrong pruning.

Agree with the above. I prune all of mine (except for the evergreen species or early spring bloomers) as type 3's. Too many to worry about the specifics of when and of how much. They all bloom fine, the type 2's just a bit later than typical :-)

The wholesale grower of clems I used to work for pruned back their containerized plants - all types - routinely through the growing season just to keep the plants tidy and the vines from tangling over much. They all bloomed like maniacs!!
