clematis for a fence

I've grown clematis before but it was a while back in our first house. I have no idea what species (something we bought at Lowes). So I know very little about clematis. Our new house has a very long common drive at the end of which is a long wood fence. I would like to stick a couple of clematis up there to soften things and make it look a little more inviting. So I want a vine that would grow on a fence (I would be fine going out and training it if needed). But it also needs to be tough because there is no way I could get a hose out that far. It would be pretty much full sun. I'd like it to grow fast and be huge because there is a lot of fence up there. I've searched this forum and sweet autumn looks like a good plant but I would prefer a purple or some colored flower rather than white. maybe I could do a couple different ones to include the sweet autumn. Not sure. Any recommendations? Thanks! lyn
