Hi! I have a clivia which I've allowed to grow into a large clump. It currently has 6 spikes and the first one is just beginning to bloom. I don't know how they perform for others, but I will get another set of spikes this summer after placing the plant outside in the shade. So, I guess I'm saying I get two flowerings per year, but my plant is about 10 years old.

I am not sure how old they are, but they are in 5 gallon size pots. Minimum age for flowering is 5 years right? This might be first or second year of their blooms.

Clivia love to be rootbound. Not sure of how old they need to be for bloom. Mine is potted in a deep 10" (I think) clay pot, and I don't really disturb the plant except to top dress and move it outdoors for summer. It is due for division later this spring as it is literally climbing out of its pot. I have both berries and flower spikes growing simultaneously. I hate to disturb what seems to be a happy plant, but it's really crowded. And too heavy to move!

I saw your other message as well.

Mature Clivias usually produce one spike per year per plant. large clumps can definitiely produce many more, but that is due to the number of mature plants. Some Clivias will produce 2 spikes in a year, either at the same time or several months apart. The second one is usually less impressive than the first. SOmetimes after a spike is broken, you will see a new one form a month or two later. Often times you have to wait a year. Nutrition, maturity and lighting all play a part in its flower cycle. Craig, I beg to differ. Some of mine bloom 2X/year, even blooming while the seed pods on the first bloom are still ripening. And it's not a clump, just single bulbs in each pot.
