In Southern CA, they are seeing their first blooms open. Here in Norhtern CA, we will start getting many more blooms next week. I only have one open right now, but mid March to mid April is my peak time. The time seems to shift as you move north and east from here.

I wouldn't give up on it yet. Mine just started to throw a spike this weekend. I was afraid it wouldn't, because I left a couple berries on it to ripen, but they matured and I finally clipped them off about a week ago. I don't know if removing them gave it the last little nudge to bloom or not. This is in Ohio, btw.

I am in zone 8b (South Central Texas), and my clivia clump is blooming....actually the blooms (2 spikes) are at the end of their full bloom and a few blossoms have fallen off. From the time I noticed the bloom spikes coming up to them being in full bloom seemed like it just took a week! To me, that's fast. I guess they bloomed like that last year. Here's the kicker. I have them planted outside in a protected area, but our temps got down to the upper 20s a few times this winter and they are fine. I threw a tarp over them once, and the existing fall leaves protected them. I started with one plant three years ago and now I have an impressive clump of four or five large plants that get filtered light. They are the orange variety with yellow throats. Lovely! I'm guessing you will see bloom spikes in 3-4 weeks, since you are zone 5. Enjoy!

Hi i live outside of Boston, MA and I have indoor clivia. There are no spikes yet. I still have a spike with red berries on in from an earlier blooming this winter.

They bloom and die off as fast as our summers come and go..
Are there really fire flies in Texas? lol

Mary, is there a reason why your holding on to an old flower spike? I wonder if that could be inhibiting fresh flowers. Someone may know. As for me, I cut them all off.
