Oh my gosh. Thats what I call a tree and thanks a lot now I want Sam, lol. Just what I need another brug on my want list, lol. Those are just beautiful! We had drought really bad too and I didn't figure out until late in the year that I needed to be watering 3 or 4 times a day to get them to grow, lol.

Hi Mark, Beautiful doubles but I really love that prolific bloomer of yours. What is that? It's not a CG the leaves are much smaller, though I do see the serrated leaves common to both CG & Dr. Seuss but the flowers are like CG not the yellow of Dr. Seuss. I can't figure it out...unless you remove all of the bigger leaves...hmmm.

Do you leave that brug in the ground and wrap her stem up or what? And do you put big water bottles with holes in the bottom to keep that baby watered? I'm going to do that to mine next year.

    Thanks for the pics- Sandy

That peach brugmansia is incredibly impressive. I can not afford to be addicted to brugs also. ha ha Beautiful job on raising such a healthy monster.

Wow, Mark, Sam is doing really well for you- wait til Mike wakes up and see it!!

My Double Peach did not do anything this year- I left it in the ground over winter, and it was overshadowed by other brugs. But my DIL has a coupla plants and what a show. This brug still has the longest blossoms I have seen on any brug.

Ah, the great Dr. Suess/Charles Grimaldi debate. I think it is DS, because of the color of the blossoms. I see smooth and serrated leaves on that baby. Whichever, is is spectacular!!
Congrats! And thanks for posting! Ya got more photos? You know how greedy we are! LOL!

Pretty darn impressive tree you've got! It looks fantastic as do the other blooms. How much die back do you get in the winter? I take it that monster stays outside year round? Do you protect it in any way?

    Wow...That's all I can say...Wow...Very nice!!

Ya'll, I'm gonna tell on Mark! This is how hardy brugs are.

That is the monster he drags into his greenhouse every year. It touches the peak of the greenhouse, over 11-12' high, I'm guessing. All that growth of side-branch greenery is from this year. But the height and the girth of the truck is years old.

He grows that in a gallon pot in his greenhouse all winter. It loves it- just look at that plant! Way to go, Mark!!

That 'Sam' is more than stunning! :) Wow! Absolutely beautiful! I don't know if Brenda meant me in her post or not! But if so - I'll bring the U-Haul trailer!! rofl! And the 'Double Peach!' I knew I should have ordered it from you this past Spring! What a loss on my part! Maybe next year - you know, when we get our taxes & have the extra money to blow! I think Mark got a great portion of my tax refund this past year! lol! He has some nice brugs - as you can obviously see! Thanks for sharing your pics Mark! I enjoyed them! :)

Glad yall like these pics.I do not know what variety the Giant one is-it was one of the 1st brugs I got about 10 years ago.I just call it "Orange".It's So simple to grow a large tree like this.I just took one of the tallest trunks, and rooted it.Yep-Brenda's right(she's seen it cramped into my greenhouse last winter)-I just cut it back-and remove all the leaves and dig up the rootball-and pot it up in a huge pot.It grows like mad over the winter-and even starts blooming in about march-and I put it back out in May-and it blooms ontil it goes back in the greenhouse. Here's a pic of it when I cut it back-the top branches were well over 9 feet tall.I had to lay it down to trim them!!!{{gwi:559641}}The huge rootball would not fit in a 5 gallon bucket!!

    Yep-I was thinking about hanging a tire swing on it....LOL.I just water it once a week,but fertilize heavy with 10-10-10 and water soluable fetilizer.Mike-great to hear from you-how did your brugs do this year?I've got hundreds of great pics-I'll be posting them soon.Now that I've got everything moved into the greenhouse,I'll have a little time to post here.Here's a few more of the double peach-{{gwi:559643}} {{gwi:559645}} {{gwi:559647}} Now here's something interesting-Here's a double peach that the second,lower skirt has seperated petals.Very unusual. {{gwi:559649}}

    Mark

My brugs did well this year! Very happy! :) Even though the move to the new place 'stumped' their blooming a little. lol! But did they grow! And 'yes' - post 100's of pics! :) We love them! And thanks for adding a few more of the 'Double Peach!' That color is WOW! Makes me want her even more! I think a U-Haul trailer is pretty cheap this time of the year! :) Have a great night Mark! Thanks for sharing your beauties with us!

Thanks for sharing your pretty babies or in the case of the 'tree'- huge monster lol! That must be a chore getting that in every year! Your Sam is a real beauty. Mine turned out to be a dark single pink LMAO! I am definitely gonna rebuy that one though-too pretty!

Mark, are you going to sale that Sam on ebay one day? and
I thought I have enough Brugs! Thanks for posting Sam ;)

Thanks Mark for the great info...now I'm thinking maybe I could hang the thing on the basement ceiling and bag the roots in a way that I could just mist mine every week or so of coarse I'd have to have the branch tips pointing towards the light...lol My rootball won't fit in no 5gallon pot this year either so I have a big tote in mind right now. Unfortunately, my Y's are about 6-7' up and there's the depth of the root ball once it's out. I'll either have to lean it or cut right down. Last year I didn't know about keeping that Y a good sized extention and cut them too low and they pretty much just dried up, so they started their allowed new branches at 4' and up on last last year's stalk...it seams Charles Grimaldi wants about 3' of new growth before Y'ing.

And it does not grow new leaf tuffs/branches from those places/eyes if I completely remove them that grow along the length of 'last years' stalk. Same observation with Frosty Pink and a NOID (No-ID) white. Anybody else notice this?

Again Mark thanks for all the tips.

    -Sandy

Sandy,I cut the plant just a couple inches above the "Y".I also sometimes really hack back at that rootball,to get it to fit into a pot-this never seems to effect the plant. You could always lean the plant in your basement-It probably won't put on too much new growth during the winter.Yes,I too have noticed that once you've cut off any lower branches, most of the new growth does occur up top.

Incredible Mark. Please let me know when you put Sam up on ebay. I really want one badly, lol.

    Kristy

    Doesn't everyone?? :)

ps: love playing this 'post-tag' with you!

    Mark,

Absolutely gorgeous!!! That Sam is such a luscious bloom..That's going on my "must have" list.
The double peach is fabulous as well, add another to my ever growing list. LOL
And the orange is stupendous, not just the size of it which is remarkable, but what a spectacular flush. That has to be awe-inspiring to see in your yard during flushes. Just breathtaking. Wow!!! Thanks for sharing and you'll have to post some pics during winter to get us through to spring.

Hi Mark, so you just regrow new Y's and the first Y isn't really important? Your fortunate you have a greenhouse to keep it growing in.

Yeah, I decided today, that I'll be hacking at some of those roots. It's much bigger this year and I have no desire to have to escavate all those roots. But as I can't save what's left of the Y's on the 3 main stalks/stem I've kept over from last winter, I'm going to cut it down to where ever I please. I'll have 6 Y branches that will be about at least 3' each, I hope the Y's don't die off. I had 9 but I cut 2 off before they Y'd and the third was stolen, and they knew how to cut it to.

Are you being funny Mark? Well I laughed. I asked if any leaf tuffs (yes, inevitably new branches) ever grow back from the places you removed them from. Like a second chance at a branch in that same place. Mine won't give me a second chance on any of my brugs. It's obvious you don't remove any tuffs/branches from the Giant, but surely others, including yourself, must of not wanted branches growing in particular places on one brug or another, at one time or another, and then observed them not growing back in. Not whether the branches I allow to grow will grow and the ones I don't won't....lol

Thanks for sharing Mark - Sandy

    Sandy-Retaining that 1st "Y" is important-I've found that most of the time,everything that is really green,above the "Y" will shrivel up,and die anyway.So-I cut right above the "Y". Y Not???(Brug humor).Here's a few pics of the cut right above the 1st "Y".{{gwi:559651}} Here's a pic taken from further back.I just could not bring myself to cut off that bloom.{{gwi:559653}}

Thats a great tutorial Mark. That will help me a lot when I start cutting back. Never did it before. I have let everything grow that will grow, lol. I am afraid if I cut one that is where the buds would have been, lol. I have only taken just a few from one plant. Its funny too because Pink Perfektion is getting buds on a new lower branch and not the main oldest stems so I guess I was right not to cut that one into a tree form like I thought about.

I just noticed the poor, wilted & discarded leaves & blooms in the left bottom corner of photo. Looks kinda depressing.....They are wondering how come THAT one got to stay!

Sorry ...I need to go to bed....making plants talk....
