If you have a room that gets early morning light and where the temperature drops to between 9 and 10C - that's what they need for about six to eight weeks, otherwise they might start flowering too early and have stubby stalks.

Usually there's enough damp left in the mix to see the plants over that time. I know they have fleshy roots but a complete 'drought' is not a good idea. Barely damp, not arid.

Not the basement. Clivias don't mind filtered light but they're not fans for unrelieved gloom.
