I got a Nelly Moser this week and want to plant her in a North facing bed that even though it only receives three or four hours of direct sun it is a bright bed. The spot I want to plant her in receives more sun than the rest of the bed and is next to a limelight Hydrangea with a hosta at the front (that is starting to emerge now) and an Endless Summer H on the other side. I do have some irises planted close by but I am planning to move them before I plant Nelly.

I was thinking of planting her between where she is now in her pot and where the irises are now, so kind of the same distance from both hydrangeas. In doing this she wouldn't be planted directly infront of the trellis but she should have the space she needs for her roots. I can then train her to climb on the trellis.

I plan on attaching some black chicken wire to the back of the trellis before I plant her so that she can climb easier. That whole bed has been ammended with compost and I will be adding more when planting. Excellent drainage too. I know to plant her 4" deep.

My questions:

a) Will this be enough space for Nelly?

b) Will the stems be ok with my planting her a bit sideways from the trellis?

c) Is there anything else I should take into account or do?

I also have a piilu that I planted last year and have her growing in an obelisk trellis. I am concerned because she seems to be reaching for the sun so she is leaning out and because I am unsure as to wether she has enough support right now. Is there anything I should be doing differently with my Piilu?
