What to do with my clematis

I have 2 Clematis growing together on the side of my house. One blooms in the summer (can't find the name) and the other is Sweet Autumn. I didn't cut them back and they are all intertwined. There is a lot of new growth on the top and some on the bottom. Mixed in is a lot of dead stuff. Should I cut it all back or try to clean it out? Or should I just leave it? Thanks!

Since SAC is a type III clematis and definitely needs a severe pruning back, I would whack both back since they are intertwined and then see if you can keep the vines separated until the other vine blooms. Posting a picture of it will allow it to possibly be identified and the determination made as to which pruning type it is and how it should be treated in the future.
