Prunning,Trimming, Fertilizer Aren't Everthing

Went to my brother and SIL house today for an Easter family gathering and this is a picture of a Clematis that my niece has planted at her studio house. I believe it is a Ramona. This plant is probably 4 or 5 years old and has never been pruned or fertilized and is in full sun. The clematis is planted along with a triumpet vine which you can see in the picture. My three RamonaÃ¯Â¿Â½s are nothing compared to this beauty and I trim and fertilize mine,. The Ramona in the picture will be done with her blooming by the time the triumpet vine does itÃ¯Â¿Â½s thing. I guess trimming and fertilizer arenÃ¯Â¿Â½t everything!

Not Ramona which has red stamens but you are right. Pruning and fertilizer aren't everything but they sure can help. IF your Clematis looks like this, no reason to prune or fertilize but if it is a scraggly or twiggy mess with few blooms pruning and fertilizer will help. What also helps is to dig a big hole when you plant. Notice this plant's crown/roots are in full sun and blooms all the way to the ground....
