Mothers Day trellis

Last fall I went to Donohues end of season sale. I did not show a lot of restraint and went home with 8 new clems. Problem then became what would I grow them on - already had three growing on makeshift trellis setups. Sooo, this year for mothers day, my husband built me this beautiful trellis. It's got 4 clems growning on it but two are brand new and will not even make it to the visible level. It was a little hard to capture in a picture, but that is copper wire in a diamond pattern between the posts.

I'm so enamored with this that I do not mind that vines will not cover it this year!

If you click on the pic..it brings up a larger version and the copper wire is very visible...what a wonderful husband you have and so creative..that will look awesome one day..congrats on your latest project..can't wait to see it all filled up and in bloom!!..Lucky Duck..I wished I lived close enough to Donahues to buy clematis....Jeanne

sjmarq, that is so lovely! What a fantastic husband you have! I love the way it shimmers in the light and the little finials atop the posts!

I agree. A beautiful trellis. I think you need more than four planted on it however! LOL

Jeanne you can mail order from Donahues. I got my original 3 viticellas from them mailorder and got 3 more this past fall.

I love it!

Would you mind sharing how he strung the wire? Did he use eye-hooks? I want to do something similar to go along the neighbors fence, though I didn't think to use copper wire.

We did use eyehooks, and wove the wire as we strung it to add some stability. We bought 7 strand bare copper wire and untwisted it ourselves. It produced a nice undulation to the wire which I thought added some interest so we didn't straighten it which would have been hard to do.
