Any purple would look fabulous..."Jackmanii","Solina","Voluceau"..just bring up COTW and in their search function put in purple where it says tepal/petal and pruning group 3 and you'll see tons to choose from...Jeanne

Thanks for the information and I'll have to try that search. Might also mention that when I got CDB I also purchased Mme.Edouard Andre and Avant-Garde and wondering if either of these would be a good combination or are they too red? Of course I don't mind buying another purple but thought I would ask. LOL!

I think CdB would look fantastic with Mme.Edouard Andre.

I paired mine with an H.F. Young last year, but haven't seen them in bloom together yet. I like how they both have yellow stamens though, so I bought the H.F. Young especially to go with my CDB. Also, it seems like the H.F. Young blooms lower on the vine, which compliments the higher blooms on the CDB. I've read that CDB tends to bloom only at the top of the vine, and that's been the case (at least so far) for mine, so it's nice to see some blooms lower down and scrambling around on the ground. I don't have either Mme. Edouard Andre and Avant-Garde, they both look like they'd be pretty with CDB as well.

CDB is a type III that should be hard pruned every year. If not hard pruned she will bloom at the top of the vines and develop bare stems at the base. All type IIIs will do this and some type IIs.

HF Young is a type II that doesn't require hard pruning. You may lose some blooms in your zone if you do hard prune it.

You might want to rethink the combination.

I would really like Avant Garde with CDB, the two toned flowers would really compliment the pale pink. Ditto Ville de Lyon.

Thanks to you all for posting. As mentioned, last fall I just quickly planted CDB in the ground which happened to be close to Mme.Edouard Andre so guess I will just let them bloom where planted and decide if I like them together. If not I will move CDB.
