Try two things. Try to root a cutting. Do a web search on Rooting instructions, and apply the procedures which work best for you.

After taking the root cutting, Dig your jatropha compacta and gently rinse away most of the soil from the roots, then immediately plant in a pot which you have filled with the best well draining potting soil. Move that potted plant into the house or another monitored environment which will keep it at the needed temperature. Make certain to supply it with plenty of indirect light, or expose it to a plant light. Do not let the roots dry, but also make certain that the drainage is such that the roots do not rot or go sour in the pot. Feed it with a slow release, non burning,and good root feeding, organic food. This is a wonderful flowering patio plant.
