Will Orange Tolerate Bare Root Repot?

I'd like to move my 2-3 year old navel orange tree to a larger, more attractive pot (it's currently in a 5 gallon plastic pot) and completely replace the container soil. How tolerant in general are orange trees to complete bare root repotting (i.e. removing all of the soil from the root ball and replacing it with a new mix)?

It depends how careful you are. Citrus tend not to like having their roots touched, and there is a significant chance it will pout and drop leaves. Be wary about putting it into a pot more than one or two sizes bigger than its current one.

If you prefer, just slip it out of the pot, loosen the rootball around the edges and get it into a new pot.
