Log Method for Starting Cuttings?

I've been googling..again..lol and came across the log method for starting cuttings(laying the cutting on it's side in a shallow trench, and covering it halfway, with soil mix) Anyone of you ever tried this? If so, are there any advantages, or disadvantages? What is your opinion on using this method? Just curious, as I haven't seen it mentioned on the forum.

hi dees

i tried this last year and had good luck..
kept the soil moist and in front of a window.
lots of light...the plant grew ok this summer
but i prefer the cutting method..
faster success and bigger plants...
but that's just me....good luck

keep in mind I'm new. I did just try it with a brug i had 2 of. well now I only have one of . I dont think I did anything wrong but it seemed to rot very fast. I wont be tryin that again loll.

It is a very good way to get multiple plants from one cutting. Usually you get one from each exposed leaf node. I have found though that it works better earlier in the season that at this time of year. The shoots take longer to grow until they get their own good root system as the cutting energy is supplying more then one new plant initially.
It is a great way to do cuttings if you have the patience and want a lot of new plants the same.

Thanks, everyone for your input, and ruth_ann, thanks for the awsome pics.I might try it, come Spring, but I think I will stick to more commonly used way, of rooting them for now.I'm am starting brug cuttings for the first time, and worry about my cuttings rotting on me. I'm just gonna have to be careful..LOL..I'm one of those people who tend to kill house plants by smothering them with love. I can grow about any outside plant, but I'm horrible with house plants.And while I know that brugs aren't house plants, the cuttings will be stuck inside with me this winter..lol

Cassi, I used 50% potting soil and 50% garden soil.You ant it to stay loose so the roots can easily go down.
Shhhhhh, I have to admit I am not good with cuttings done the usual way but do have much better luck with the log cuttings.

lol isnt that funny how some people are good one way and others other ways lol I'm still super new I have yet to grow one to plant bloom size.lol But I just started . I cant wait till next season.
