I recently saw that 'Claire de Lune' can be grown is less light. I cannot vouch for this but read it here at Silverstarvinery.

Other members have posted about this clematis in older threads. It looks lovely.

Bees Jubilee and Arctic Queen for the north face.

Second Arctic Queen. I have it in an area that gets two hours sun in the morning. It did take three years to hit its stride but was worth it. Early flowers (white one).

I grow Clematis Paul Farges "Summer Snow" in bright shade. It barely sees direct sunlight. It's a very big clematis. It flowered for me on it's third year, for 2 months. Mine flowers in clusters.

I'm growing Sweet Autumn Clematis in the North facing garden, it's in it's second year. So, I can't comment much. However, it flowered last year.

I've heard, that you can grow Clematis Joe Zary, (a Canadian bred clematis, hardy to Zone 2) with only morning sun, as the afternoon sun bleaches the flowers.

Nelly Moser is doing really well for me in a shaded spot under a tree. This is it's second summer and first time blooming.

Most of the pinks like Nelly appreciate some shade or they fade badly.

'Fair Rosamond' will take some shade, added bonus has a slight scent of violets.
